Things to do around Morlaix in winter: our ideas for days out
Published on 1 November 2026 3 min read
We often picture Brittany in summer, but we have a soft spot for the colder months. The beaches empty out, the light changes from hour to hour, and you return in the evening with rosy cheeks, glad to be back in a warm house. From Maison Auzenn, in the heart of Morlaix, here are the outings we like to recommend to our guests when winter sets in.
A walk by the sea in Keremma
Keremma beach, in Tréflez, is one of our favourite spots for a long winter walk. Out of season, you’ll mainly come across walkers, a few dogs happy to run about, and plenty of birds. It’s the ideal place to clear your head and breathe deeply.
Make sure you wear sturdy shoes, take a windbreaker and, if you’re bringing your four-legged friend, a towel for the walk back. Also remember to check the tide times before you set off: at low tide, the landscape is completely different.
The heritage of Morlaix Bay
The Château du Taureau
Perched on its rock in the middle of the bay, the Château du Taureau is one of the region’s most striking landmarks. Even without visiting it, you can admire it from the coast, and on grey days it looks particularly striking. Visits to the site depend on the season and sea conditions: check before your stay to find out what’s possible in winter.
Kérouzéré Castle
In Sibiril, Kérouzéré Castle is a lovely outing for lovers of historic buildings. Its towers and walls tell a long story, and the winter atmosphere suits it well. Here too, we advise you to check access conditions and visiting days during this season.
Getting active with family or friends
Our house accommodates up to 12 people, and we know that a group sometimes needs to let off steam. Ecopark Adventures, in Taulé, offers tree-top adventure courses. This activity is generally best suited to fine weather, so do check the opening times: during a mild winter or school holidays, it can be a lovely surprise.
If the park is closed, there are other simple yet effective ideas:
- a stroll along the quays and through the narrow streets of Morlaix, looking up at the grand viaduct that towers over the town;
- a walk along the coastal paths around the bay, depending on the day’s weather;
- a trip to the Monts d’Arrée, whose moorland landscapes take on a very distinctive character in winter;
- [an indoor activity we recommend for rainy days].
Warming up over a meal
After a day out and about, nothing beats a good meal. Right in the centre of Morlaix, on Place Charles de Gaulle, Lipouz is one of the places we’re happy to recommend. It’s handy, as you can walk there from the house and then stroll back at your leisure.
For breakfast or a snack, we also like to pop into [the name of our favourite bakery]. And if you prefer to cook, seafood and crêpes are perfect for long winter evenings around a large table.
Winter: the season for cosy evenings
Perhaps what we love most about winter is coming home. We take off our boots in the hall, gather in the living room, share photos from the day and plan the next day’s outing. In Morlaix, the sea, the countryside and the historic sites are all close by, so you can mix things up depending on your mood and the weather.
In Brittany, there’s no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing. Come well wrapped up, and the rest will follow.
If this winter in Brittany appeals to you, we’d be delighted to welcome you to Maison Auzenn – whether with family, friends or even your dog. You can check our availability and book directly on this website: we’re always on hand to help you plan your stay.
